I’m EDV’s media and marketing director. I’m also 24, an ex-Hands on Disaster Response (HODR) volunteer, ex-Burners Without Borders (BWB) project manager, an ex-writing major, and a lover of books, horses, photography, travel, and people of all shapes and sizes.
Volunteering in Pisco, Peru changed my life. I was traveling alone in South America directly after graduating college and wandered into Hands on Disaster Response’s post-earthquake project on Thanksgiving of 2007. I was thinking that for my first Thanksgiving away from home I’d like to find some fellow gringos, and that maybe I’d check out the project for a few weeks. Nine months later a family I finally flew home.
In this blog I’ll be tracking EDV updates, but I’ll also be reflecting on what it means to have founded a disaster response charity and all the bumps and bruises along the way.
